WEEVA Lotion (Permethrin 5% W/V)
Permethrin lotion is a medication primarily used to treat scabies and lice infestations in humans.
Indications:
Scabies: A skin infestation caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, leading to intense itching and a pimple-like skin rash.
Lice Infestations: Effective against head lice and pubic lice (crab lice).
Mechanism of Action:
Permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid, disrupts the sodium channel current in nerve cell membranes of insects and mites. This disruption leads to paralysis and death of the parasites, effectively eliminating the infestation.
Dosage:
Scabies:
Apply the lotion thoroughly over the entire body from the neck down.
Leave it on for 8–14 hours before washing off.
A second application may be necessary after 7 days.
Head Lice:
Apply to the scalp, ensuring all hair is covered.
Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with water.
Pubic Lice:
Apply to affected areas, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off.
Side Effects:
Common Side Effects:
Skin irritation such as itching, redness, swelling.
Tingling or numbness of the skin.
Mild burning or stinging sensations.
Less Common but Severe Side Effects:
Allergic reactions like rash, hives, difficulty breathing.

Note: If any of these side effects occur, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional promptly.
Contraindications:

Children: Not recommended for use in children under 2 months of age.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be under medical supervision, as limited data is available.
